Terry Wickstrom Outdoors Hour 2: 6/10/17

Nate Zelinsky of Tightline Outdoors joins the show to talk walleye & kokanee fishing, and why the bite is currently through the roof. Nate says it's a great time to work on whatever your strength is, and mentions the fish running out of their favorite food sources like the gizzard shad. Nate points out the early shad spawn at Chatfield, and taking advantage of the phenomenon & starving fish. Also, what you could encounter on the Front Range reservoirs & current water levels across Colorado. Author & Editor of Field & Stream & Trout Magazine Kirk Deeter joins the show to talk about his new book and how outdoors media is shifting to online. Kirk's book is full of over 250 simple tips to catch fish & get out to enjoy your basic equipment. Tips for picking out your fly & peripheral vision are discussed, as well as dealing with runoff. Kirk talks about fishing slack water with big, gaudy flies & how to manage the bend in a rod when catching carp. Ronny Castiglioni with Fishful Thinker joins the show to give Terry a Northern Colorado fishing report & what learning to do a little side-arm casting can do for an angler. Ronny highlights the short accurate roll cast, as well as an underhand pitch with a bait-casting rod. Boyd Lake is as high as Ronny can remember seeing it, and he's happy about the chances to get your boat where you could not before. Ronny says a heavy, mop-style jig will help get through snags, and fall through cover with accurate punches. Finally, Ronny mentions the importance of being ready to set the hook so the fish doesn't run & tangle your line.
