Broncos injury update: Team taking ‘precautions’ with D.J. Jones

Dec 8, 2022, 6:28 PM

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — D.J. Jones is one of just six Broncos to start all 12 games so far this season. But on Thursday, he found himself sidelined from practice because of a shoulder injury.

“He had discomfort today, so we’re just taking care of it and taking all precautions,” Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said.

Jones was not listed on the injury report a day earlier.

While Jones was sidelined, OL Tom Compton and kicker Brandon McManus returned to practice. Both worked on a limited basis. Compton did not practice Wednesday due to an illness. McManus is nursing a quadriceps injury.

Hackett said Wednesday there was “not a super high level of concern” regarding McManus’ potential availability for Sunday.

Special-teams coordinator Dwayne Stukes did not disclose whether McManus would handle kickoffs or whether punter Corliss Waitman would fill in for him.

“I don’t want to get into our game plan or what we’re going to do or who’s going to kick,” Stukes said. “We expect Brandon to kick, and if he’s out there, we expect him to execute.”

Edge rusher Jonathon Cooper also landed on the injury report Thursday. He saw limited work due to an ankle injury.

Also seeing limited work Thursday were TE Albert Okwuegbunam (illness), ILB Justin Strnad (knee), CB K’Waun Williams (wrist/elbow/knee), DL DeShawn Williams (illness), WR Jerry Jeudy (ankle) and DL Jonathan Harris (knee).
