Broncos injury update: Jerry Jeudy ruled out as Broncos’ injury flood continues

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — One can understand why Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett would be exasperated regarding his team’s health — or the lack thereof.

Just seven players started all of the team’s regular-season games this season — a number that will drop to six with WR Jerry Jeudy ruled out for Sunday. Fourteen first-teamers missed at least one game in the first nine contests of the season.

That leaves Hackett searching for answers.

“Yes, it’s unbelievably unfortunate,” he said after practice Friday. “We’ve got great people here. We’ve got the strength staff, the training room, everybody. And we’re evaluating everything. We’re looking at it. But those guys work.

“We’ve all looked into what we can do, how we can prevent things. Obviously, when things happen out there on the field, you can’t prevent those. But we’re looking at it all. We have them do so many different things. From hydration tests to sleep monitoring — asking them a survey — as much as we can, and sometimes, things happen. And for whatever reason, it’s happened a lot this year. And it’s unfortunate, but it gives other guys opportunities to play.”

Last Sunday, Kendall Hinton got that opportunity. He immediately replaced Jeudy after the first-snap injury. But Hinton was limited on Friday after sitting out Thursday’s work. He is questionable.

Jeudy suffered an ankle injury on the Broncos’ first offensive snap last Sunday against Tennessee. While the injury was not as bad as initially feared, it prevented him from practicing this week.

Jeudy is still considered “day-to-day” heading into Week 12, Hackett said.

The Broncos officially ruled four other players out for Sunday: FB/TE Andrew Beck, ILB Jonas Griffith, WR KJ Hamler and CB K’Waun Williams. None of them practiced this week. Hamler and Williams are expected to miss multiple weeks with hamstring and knee injuries, respectively.

Jeudy, Williams and Griffith will become the 15th, 16th and 17th Broncos first-teamers to miss at least one game this season. That group includes long snapper Jacob Bobenmoyer, who is expected to return Sunday after being on injured reserve following thumb surgery.

Griffith aggravated what Hackett called a “nagging” foot injury during practice. He could miss the balance of the season. Alex Singleton will start in his place, although Singleton noted Friday that Josey Jewell will wear the green dot on the helmet, meaning he will handle the defensive play calls.

In addition to Hinton, four other Broncos are questionable:

  • ILB Baron Browning (hip)
  • OL Tom Compton (back)
  • OT Cam Fleming (quadriceps)
  • C/G Graham Glasgow (shoulder)

All four of them saw limited work during each day of practice this week. Fleming has not played since Week 7 against the New York Jets.
