The CU Buffs basketball team just demolished another ranked SEC team

Good luck figuring out the University of Colorado men’s basketball team through five games.

They now have two absolutely outstanding wins. And two perplexing losses.

One of those victories came on Friday over No. 24 Texas A&M in the Myrtle Beach Invitational. The Buffs came out on fire after a disappointing loss to UMass on Thursday and absolutely blasted the Aggies. CU was up by 21 points at halftime and cruised to a 103-75 win. Colorado went 16-32 from three-point land.

The win included the most points CU has scored against a ranked opponent since beating No. 10 Oregon, 100-91 all the way back on Jan. 5, 2014. That happened to be the final home game for star point guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

This is the second ranked win for the Buffaloes over an SEC team this young season. Last Sunday they took down No. 11 Tennessee 78-66. But they also lost on the road to Grambling just a couple days before that, so they already have the most confusing resume in the country.

Tad Boyle’s bunch was paced by sophomore guard KJ Simpson with 30 points in the beatdown of Texas A&M. He scored 23 in the big victory over the Volunteers.

And Boyle has been hitting the recruiting trail hard, landing two huge recruits, including a five-star prospect that’s the program’s best signee since Chauncey Billups and a four-star local stud.

Realistically, the Buffs could be 5-0 and firmly in the top-25. Instead, they have two amazing wins, and two losses that they hope get ignored come NCAA Tournament selection time.

The talent is there (and more is coming soon), but now it’s about finding consistency.

CU will wrap up the Myrtle Beach Invitational on Sunday.
