Broncos injury update: KJ Hamler out ‘a few weeks’

Nov 16, 2022, 2:11 PM

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — KJ Hamler didn’t practice Wednesday, and he will miss “a few weeks” with the hamstring injury he suffered Nov. 10, Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett said before his team began its three days of practice for the Las Vegas Raiders.

Hamler is one of three receivers who did not practice Wednesday. Joining him out of uniform were Jerry Jeudy (ankle) and Kendall Hinton (shoulder). Both of them are considered day-to-day.

Also not practicing Wednesday were TE Andrew Beck (hamstring), edge rusher Baron Browning (hip), center Graham Glasgow (shoulder), DE Enyi Uwazurike (illness) and CB K’Waun Williams (knee).

All but Williams are considered “day-to-day.” Williams is “week-to-week” after undergoing a knee scope, but he remains on the 53-man roster.

Browning hasn’t practiced since injuring his hip Oct. 23. Beck suffered his hamstring injury last week and hasn’t practiced since then.

Glasgow succumbed in the third quarter of last Sunday’s loss at Tennessee.

“We feel we dodged a little bit of a bullet with Graham,” Hackett said. “He’s really bounced back well. We’re going to play it day-to-day.”

In the meantime, Luke Wattenberg will get “a solid amount” of repetitions at center, Hackett noted.

“We always try to work it,” Hackett said. “You never can work it enough — especially going under there for a snap. Everybody snaps a little bit different. You want to get is as consistent as you possibly can. We’ll try to continually work it now, if we’ve gotta go with him, so we’ll get a full week from that standpoint.”

ALSO OF NOTE:

Justin Simmons was not on the field at the start of practice. An hour earlier, Hackett said Simmons would be limited due to a knee sprain.

Also practicing, but limited, were five players:

  • Tom Compton
  • Cam Fleming
  • Jonas Griffith
  • Kareem Jackson
  • Mike Purcell

The Broncos activated Compton from the physically-unable-to-perform list on Tuesday. He began practicing in Week 8 as the Broncos got ready for their game in London.

Compton started 10 games last season for the 49ers at right tackle — seven regular season, three postseason. Right tackle is the position vacated by the injured Billy Turner, leading to the obvious question: Can Compton play as soon as Sunday?

“We sure want him to,” Hackett said. “He’s a player that’s played a lot of games in this league. We need him. We need him for this team. This is going to be a big week for him, I think, to take a big step forward.”

However, Hackett didn’t specify where he would play.

“He can play all four positions [other than center],” Hackett said. “He’s going to give us a lot of value, and that flexibility that we need.”

MEANWHILE … edge rusher Randy Gregory remains on injured reserve with no change in his status.

“Right now, we’re just playing that week-to-week. We want to do the right thing for him,” Hackett said.

Gregory underwent a knee scope after the Week 4 loss at Las Vegas.
