Less than 48 hours after a blockbuster trade sent edge rusher Bradley Chubb to the Miami Dolphins, his new club is signing him to a huge contract extension, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The Broncos sent Chubb to Miami in a package that netted Denver a first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and running back Chase Edmonds in an exchange of assets.

Chubb signs on for five years in South Florida at the price of $119 million, $63.2 of which is guaranteed. The deal is very similar to the one a much older but more accomplished Von Miller signed this offseason with Buffalo after a deadline deal sent him to the Rams. Miller signed with the Bills for six years, $120 million, and a $51 million guarantee.

The Broncos got more back for Chubb than Miller, likely due to the Dolphins’ ability to extend—or had they wanted to franchise tag—Chubb, whereas Miller was about to be an unrestricted free agent.

The fifth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of NC State, Chubb is having one of his stronger years in an up-and-down career. Twice, Chubb, 26, has been limited to seven games or fewer as injuries derailed his season, but in the three years he’s played eight or more games, he’s gone for over five or more sacks. His QB pressures, hits and tackles for a loss make him a dynamic defender.

Chubb was never going to get paid like this by Denver. The move to trade Chubb was seemingly in the making for a while, with the Broncos signing Randy Gregory this past offseason, drafting Nik Bonitto this past spring and moving Baron Browning to edge.
