Hackett won’t be making any staff changes, ready for more normal schedule

Nov 1, 2022, 11:56 AM

When you win, it’s hard to expect any changes.

If the Broncos had lost to the Jaguars in London, anything and everything was on the table. Including a potential move at head coach with Nathaniel Hackett.

But after a 21-17 victory over Jacksonville, Hackett will remain Denver’s man in charge despite their 3-5 record. As crazy as it sounds, the playoffs aren’t out of the question, with a wide open and chaotic AFC contributing to some hope of a postseason berth.

But still, the offense needs to be better. During his press conference on Tuesday, Hackett was asked if he’d be making any staff or play-calling changes with two weeks off for Denver’s bye. That won’t be happening.

“I think our staff has really worked hard. It’s been a unique schedule, they’ve been grinding. And we’ve been trying to put the guys in the best position we possibly can. We’re evaluating everything always. We’re making sure we check everything. Find out if there’s anything we can do for these players to put them in even better situations. Right now, I like where we’re at. I like the guys, on how they’re working together,” Hackett said.

With Denver still averaging just 15.1 points per game, it’s a fair question. They’re now 31st in the NFL after being last a week ago. Only the Steelers have a more anemic offense, posting 15.0 points per contest.

But Hackett mentioning the schedule is interesting. The Broncos have played one of the quirkiest slates through eight games in recent memory. From Monday night (twice), to Sunday night, to Thursday night and a game in London, they’ve been all over the place.

That will change the rest of the way, with Denver playing nine straight Sundays to finish the year. Only the game against the Chiefs on Dec. 11 is slated to be in primetime, and that could very well get flexed out for a more competitive contest. Hackett is looking forward to the consistency, once again discussing the challenges the odd schedule has presented.

“It has been a unique schedule. We’ve got a nine-game run here coming up. The guys need to recharge. They need to see their families, they need to breathe a little bit, so we can be fresh for this nine-game run,” Hackett said.

The starts on Nov. 13 in Tennessee against the Titans. And it will be the same coaching staff with the same duties on that day.

Will it be the same roster? We’ll see. The NFL trade deadline is just about two hours away.
