INJURY REPORT

Broncos lose another key member of the secondary, Darby done for year

Oct 7, 2022, 11:48 AM

Ronald Darby left Denver’s Thursday night game in the first half with a knee injury.

On Friday, the Broncos announced that Darby is lost for the season with a torn ACL.

Darby suffered the injury in Denver’s 12-9 home loss to the Colts. He has started every game this season opposite Patrick Surtain II and even stepped up his game to another level once the Broncos lost safety Justin Simmons to injury.

Darby is in his eighth season out of Florida State. The 28-year-old signed a three-year $30 million deal before the 2021 season, in which he ended up playing 11 games. While never a ballhawk, not snatching an interception since 2019, he’s a steady cornerback and will be missed.

It’s now on K’Waun Williams and Damarri Mathis to step up for Darby just like Caden Sterns has for Simmons. The free safety picked off Matt Ryan twice on Thursday.

Darby joins Simmons, Michael Ojemudia, Christopher Allen, Randy Gregory, Tim Patrick, and Garett Bolles on the shelf. Bolles was also announced done for the season on Friday.
