Nikola Jokic and three Nuggets teammates went to the Padres game

Sep 27, 2022, 10:12 PM

The Nuggets are in San Diego for training camp as they prepare for the 2022-23 NBA season.

The team only has one practice court at Ball Arena in Denver, so traveling West provided them an opportunity to practice with more space and at a better facility. It also allowed for some team bonding, as evidenced by what transpired on Tuesday night.

Back-to-back MVP Nikola Jokic and three of his Nuggets teammates attended the baseball game between the Padres and Dodgers. They sat in the first row, near the Los Angeles dugout. And everyone but Jokic wore Padres’ gear.

As the Jomboy Media tweet above mentions, that’s DeAndre Jordan, Jeff Green and Ish Smith with Jokic. Only Green was on the team a season ago. Jordan was signed as a free agent and Smith came over with Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in a trade that sent Monte Morris and Will Barton to Washington.

If the Colorado Rockies were good, it’d be one thing to have three of the four repping the Padres. Denver sports stars have done a nice job of sticking with the hometown teams. But the Rockies are not good, so who cares if Jordan, Green and Smith wanted to rock their gear? Even though Colorado and San Diego play in the same division, it’s not like there’s a rivalry there.

San Diego is about to make the postseason and try to make a run at a World Series. The Rockies will be playing golf in nine days, missing the playoff for a fourth straight year.

The Nuggets are legitimate title contenders entering the NBA season. It’s nice to see Jokic and a couple of new teammates out together enjoying a beautiful Southern California night. Hopefully they had a blast, and it’s cool to see Jokic as just one of the guys.
