The Broncos spent Monday morning absorbing shots from near and far after another mistake-choked, game-management-mangled performance. But in the midst of that fusillade, they got some good news with the word that Pat Surtain II might not miss much time — if any.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Surtain is considered day-to-day after further examination of the shoulder the injured in the first half of Sunday’s 16-9 win over the Houston Texans.

Denver also may have dodged a bullet on wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who suffered a rib injury Sunday. X-rays on his ribs revealed no fractures, as first reported by KUSA-Ch. 9’s Mike Klis, and he is now considered “day-to-day,” like Surtain.

By the second quarter Sunday, the Broncos were without seven players listed on their first team or considered to be starters:

  • WR Tim Patrick
  • S Justin Simmons
  • RG Quinn Meinerz
  • ILB Josey Jewell
  • WR KJ Hamler
  • RT Billy Turner
  • Jeudy
  • Surtain

Patrick is out for the season. Simmons is on recallable injured reserve, but is expected back in three weeks. Jewell and Turner practiced last Friday and could be good to go for Week 3 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Broncos are still a banged-up group, but things could certainly be far worse.
