CU AD Rick George releases statement on Karl Dorrell, says nothing at all

Sep 19, 2022, 11:37 AM

As the University of Colorado football team continues to reach stunning new lows, fans are ready for a new direction.

I wrote two weeks ago that if athletic director Rick George won’t fire head coach Karl Dorrell, maybe he should fire himself. Since then, the Buffs have been embarrassed by both Air Force and Minnesota. And nothing’s changed.

Well on Sunday night, George released a fancy statement about the football program. Based on how it looked, people thought it could be announcing a big shakeup. Nope. Instead it was non-statement, with literally no new information. Read it for yourself.

How lame is that? George and CU dropped this right after a disastrous Broncos win. They knew exactly what they were doing with the timing, but still got called out by the masses. Why even release a statement if you’re not going to change anything?

The reality is fans don’t want to hear from George right now unless he’s dismissing Dorrell. Our Andrew Mason broke it down over the weekend; Colorado football literally hasn’t been this bad since the 1890s. And George decides Sunday night was the time to endorse Dorrell and promote the game against UCLA on Saturday?

This “statement” provides more questions than answers. With what happened in the Broncos game, one in which the head coach said he was “booing himself,” it would have been better for George to just stay in the shadows. Instead, he brought CU football back into the conversation and ticked everyone off all over again.

Maybe the next time he feels the need to say something publicly, it will be to actually fire Dorrell. Until then, I don’t want to hear it. And neither do loyal Buffs fans.
