New video suggests Russell Wilson tipped off Seattle with old hand signals

Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf each played with Russell Wilson for years. The two star wideouts each caught hundreds of passes for thousands of yards and dozens of touchdowns while Wilson was behind center.

In Wilson’s debut for the Denver Broncos, he went up to Seattle to face his old team, the Seahawks. Wilson threw for 340 yards and one touchdown, but his team came up short at the end, losing 17-16. The Broncos fumbled twice on the goal line and missed a last-second field goal attempt from far out.

But could Wilson have done even better? Broncos wide receivers only caught 11 balls on 15 targets, with Wilson checking down to the running backs and hitting the tight ends a lot. Could this have been because the Seahawks knew what was coming?

A new video that came out Friday suggests that Lockett and Metcalf alerted the defense what routes were coming. Lockett claims in the video that Wilson didn’t change his audibles and hand signals from his time in Seattle.

Lockett teaches Mike Jackson one of the hand signals for a go route.

“They got our same stuff,” Lockett exclaims. “I literally called it when he did this (motions at wrist.).”

Wilson was traded to Denver this offseason after spending a decade in Seattle. Maybe he’ll change some of his signs heading into his home opener, Week 2 against the Texans.
