Hackett says Broncos will rally around Russell Wilson in “hostile place”

Sep 9, 2022, 12:26 PM

One day after Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll essentially encouraged fans to boo Russell Wilson, Broncos head coach Nathaniel Hackett took the high road.

At his press conference on Friday, Hackett was asked about Denver going into the lion’s den. He was clear it’s all about earning a victory, but the Broncos will also support Wilson.

“For us, it’s just about going to win a football game. We know it’s going to be a hostile environment, no matter who the quarterback is out there. I think the entire (Seahawks) organization, I know that they appreciate him. And they know all the games that he’s won and all the things he’s done for that community and everybody,” Hackett said. “We’re proud to have him here at Denver, we’re going to rally around him. Either way it’s a hostile place, so we’re excited for it.”

That’s a great answer from Hackett, and frankly it’s silly we’re discussing this. Can you imagine if Colts fans booed Peyton Manning in his return to Indianapolis? It would have been ludicrous. Instead they gave him a long standing ovation.

It’s a shame Seattle fans won’t show that kind of class, but they’re clearly bitter. When you downgrade from Russell Wilson to Geno Smith, it’s understandable, but the venom should be spewed at the front office and Carroll, not at Wilson.

Frankly, Monday night just needs to get here. Wilson can run out for his first series, get booed and we can all move on. Seattle has created this silly storyline, so they can have their moment and then it will be dead.
