(Update: 12:14 p.m.) –

Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson has changed his plans.

After tweeting on Friday morning he’d be doing a Stanley Cup meet up with Avalanche fans in Cherry Hills Village at John Meade Park from 10:45 – 11:45 a.m., he’s revised it and deleted the old tweet. Here are the new details.

Who knows if someone was worried about security or too many folks showing up, but this is the new option. Our original story remains below.

(11:31 a.m.) –

After an epic tour all over the world with almost the entire Avalanche roster, the Stanley Cup is coming back to Colorado.

Specifically, Cherry Hills Village. Avs defenseman Erik Johnson announced on Twitter that fans will have an hour on Saturday morning to come see the best trophy in sports.

Johnson, the Avalanche’s longest-tenured player, saw all the highs and lows of this franchise before finally getting his day with the Cup. The Avs traded for him in February of 2011, and he’s been with the team ever since. As Johnson’s gotten older, he’s taken a little less of a role, but was still critical in this postseason run.

Johnson played all 20 games for Colorado on their way to a title for the first time since 2001. He scored a goal and added four assists, but most importantly was a grizzled veteran on defense who delivered 79 hits. His leadership was invaluable as well.

After the Avs won the Cup, Johnson took one last moment to skate on the ice in Tampa Bay by himself.

Many wondered if Johnson would retire, but all indications are he’ll be back for the final year of his contract as the Avs try to repeat as champions.

But in the meantime, if this is Johnson’s one and only day with the Stanley Cup, it’s cool he’s sharing it with the fans. We’ll see if it’s a madhouse tomorrow morning in Cherry Hills — one would expect a lot of Avalanche fans to show up.
