Report: Nuggets bringing back former point guard Andre Miller in new role

Aug 31, 2022, 12:44 PM | Updated: 12:45 pm

The Denver Nuggets are taking a trip down memory lane.

The team is reportedly hiring former point guard Andre Miller to run their G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Gold. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski broke the news on Wednesday afternoon.

As “Woj” mentions, Miller played six years with the Nuggets from 2003-2006, before returning for a couple more seasons in 2011. Miller was part of the blockbuster trade that brought Allen Iverson to Denver from the Philadelphia 76ers in December of 2006. The Nuggets eventually used Iverson to acquire Chauncey Billups, propelling their run to the Western Conference Finals in the spring of 2009.

Miller enjoyed a long 17-year NBA career and ranks No. 11 all-time in career assists in the NBA. He was known as a savvy, smart point guard in Denver who former Nuggets head coach George Karl adored. Miller will replace the recently departed Jason Terry, who left the Gold earlier this year for an assistant coaching job with the Utah Jazz.

We’ll see if this is the Nuggets giving Miller a shot to prove his coaching prowess, and if he eventually could join Michael Malone’s bench in Denver. The Gold went 17-15 a season ago and missed the G League playoffs.
