Ja’Wuan James bleeds another $1.09 million out of the Denver Broncos

Aug 29, 2022, 2:08 PM

The Denver Broncos are finally done with Ja’Wuan James.

According to Pro Football Talk, the offensive tackle has settled his grievance against the team. The Broncos will pay him another $1.09 million, according to PFT and the NFLPA website. James was seeking $15 million, his full $10 million salary in 2021 and another $5 million in 2022.

James tore his Achilles during the 2021 offseason, working out on his own and not at the Broncos’ facility. The team argued that because the injury happened away from team headquarters, they didn’t owe him his money. The Broncos released James on May 14, 2021. He’s now with the Ravens, currently listed as a backup at left tackle.

While Paxton Lynch gets the headlines as John Elway’s worst move in his tenure as the Broncos’ GM, James remains his biggest whiff. James signed a four-year, $52 million deal with Denver in March of 2019. It included $32 million guaranteed, which he “earned” while playing just three games in orange and blue.

Thank goodness, the Broncos are now done paying Ja’Wuan James.

Good riddance.

By any name — rebuild, retool — the Broncos are under construction

The Broncos may not say "rebuild," but by any reasonable definition, they're early into construction and public expectations will reflect it.
