Nazem Kadri’s day with the Stanley Cup includes a trip to a mosque

Aug 28, 2022, 3:28 PM

The Stanley Cup visited a new place on Saturday afternoon.

Former Avalanche center Nazem Kadri took the trophy to a mosque in his hometown of London, Ontario. It’s believed to be the first time the Cup has ever been in a mosque; Kadri is a practicing Muslim.

“To be the first person to do that, it’s an absolute privilege and an honor to be able to bring this to my community and my hometown,” Kadri said about the moment.

Kadri was a huge contributor to the Avs winning their first championship since 2001, scoring a hat trick in a pivotal Game 4 against the Blues and an OT winner in the Final against the Lightning. He’s since moved on to the Calgary Flames, inking a seven-year, $49 million deal earlier this month. Here are some moments captured on social media of Kadri and the Cup at the mosque:

That’s very cool. The Avs are winding down their time with the Cup, as pretty much every big name has now spent a day with the trophy.

Of course, they’ll look to do it all over again next summer, although this time without Kadri. That journey begins on October 12 at home against the Blackhawks.
