ROCKIES

Rockies are biggest underdogs of entire MLB season tonight in New York

Aug 25, 2022, 11:32 AM

The Colorado Rockies are bad. The New York Mets are good.

That much we know.

The Mets are 79-46, good for first place in the National League East. They are a surefire playoff team, and could win a World Series. The Rockies sit at 54-71, dead last in the NL West. They will be playing golf in October.

So, with the Rockies headed to New York this evening, it was obvious the oddsmakers would make the Mets a favorite to win the game. No matter who the starting pitchers were, that was always going to be the case. But this nugget from SuperBook Sports is a bit jarring.

Wow!

There are more than 2,400 games played in an MLB season. The league is approaching 2,000 played thus far, yet the Rockies are the biggest underdogs of the entire year. That’s wild.

The pitching matchup doesn’t help. The Mets will trot out two-time Cy Young award winner Jacob deGrom. He recently returned from injury, but is 2-1 on the season with a 2.31 ERA. Meanwhile, the Rockies will start Ryan Feltner, just 2-4 with a 5.88 ERA. There’s also the factor Colorado can seemingly never hit in their first game going from Coors Field to sea level. SuperBook has set their team total at a mere 1.5 runs.

It’s not surprising the Rockies are once again making the wrong kind of history. But it is wild to see the oddsmakers so confident in a result, particularly when every baseball team pretty much wins and loses at least 60 games every year.

We’ll see if the Rockies can shock the baseball world, and if anyone is insane enough to put a dollar or two on it.
