The Denver Broncos wanted to leave their first preseason game against the Cowboys with a healthy roster.
That might not be the case.
Starting inside linebacker Jonas Griffith was hurt on the second play of the game. Griffith collapsed in a heap of pain and was holding his left arm / shoulder. The Broncos called it an elbow injury, and immediately ruled Griffith out for the game.

The Broncos are already thin at inside linebacker, with Griffith a surprise starter entering the year. He joins Josey Jewell, with Justin Strnad and Alex Singleton slated as the backups. The Broncos flirted with signing Anthony Barr, but lost out on him to the Cowboys. They also brought in Joe Schobert for a visit, but didn’t sign him.
We’ll see how severe Griffith’s injury ends up being, but the Broncos were already looking to add help at inside linebacker.
Now they might be desperate for it.
