Broncos suffer another wideout injury, sign free agent receiver

Aug 4, 2022, 12:08 PM | Updated: 12:09 pm

The Denver Broncos will be without Tim Patrick this season as the starting receiver tore his ACL earlier this week.

Gadget receiver Kendall Hinton is also banged up with a knee injury, and on Thursday, Broncos insider Mike Klis reported that Tyrie Cleveland is out 4-6 weeks with a throat injury.

Even in one of the team’s deepest positions, the injuries have begun to mount. So the Broncos went out and signed a new wide receiver, Darrius Shepherd.

Shepherd, 26, has played two seasons in the NFL, both as a Packer. He’s only made six catches in his career and is most likely a depth addition.

Shepherd, wearing No. 38, is 5-foot-11 and 186 pounds. He went to North Dakota State University and spent last season on the practice squads of Arizona, Minnesota and Pittsburgh before signing with the New Jersey Generals of the United States Football League (USFL) in 2022. He totaled 27 receptions for 323 yards (11.9 avg.) with one touchdown.
