Landeskog’s day with Cup includes trip to his elementary school in Sweden

Jul 26, 2022, 2:29 PM

Each day the Stanley Cup spends with a member of the Avalanche is special, but today was a big one.

Captain Gabriel Landeskog got to spend the day in Stockholm, Sweden and take the best trophy in sports around his hometown. Landeskog started the day at home, took the Cup to his elementary school, over to one of his old rinks and finally on a stop with some scenic views.

That’s a pretty great day, and not even everything that happened.

NHL.com’s Anna Kulesa reports Landeskog also took the Cup to Lilla Erstagarden, a children’s hospice in Stockholm. Landeskog spent time with patients and staff.

“That’s very important to me [to visit Lilla Erstagarden]. I have a connection to the place; my nephew was there a few years ago,” Landeskog told Kulesa. “So, I would like to pay attention and honor the staff and the families there now. It feels important to me.”

Finally, Landeskog discussed his summer thus far. It’s certainly been a whirlwind, but definitely worth it.

“It’s been a busy time. It’s all still a little foggy, but absolutely wonderful,” Landeskog said. “It’s going to take some time before I really get this, and really will be able to enjoy it. So far it’s been just crazy… but great fun, of course.”
