Avs superstar MacKinnon gives 55-minute interview about winning the Cup

Jul 25, 2022, 1:49 PM

This is an hour of your day well spent.

Colorado Avalanche superstar Nathan MacKinnon went on “The High Button Podcast” with host Justin Belanger to discuss all things Stanley Cup. MacKinnon is notoriously short with the media and intense, so seeing him in a relaxed setting is awesome and revealing. 104.3 The Fan Avs insider Adrian Dater reports MacKinnon and Belanger are friends, so it makes sense.

I could transcribe the interview, but I’ll just let you watch it. MacKinnon says he’s still digesting the fact the Avs actually won the Cup and this season was definitely “win or bust.” He acknowledges “the second-round demons” that have plagued the Avs in the past and getting over them.

MacKinnon does a deep dive on blowing a three goal lead in Game 5 to the Blues, winning every series on the road and the pressure of playing at home. He says it’s natural for guys to try to “put on a show” for fans at Ball Arena and the team is more relaxed on the road.

The Avs best player also talks about how “behind the scenes” access is a little misleading, and what you see in the locker room isn’t what actually happens when it comes to speeches and leadership. Seriously, this interview is fantastic, so let’s just get to it.

Wow! There’s just so much good stuff in there. I could’ve watched another hour of those two chatting.

Mackinnon’s day with the Stanley Cup will be in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and there will be a parade, but he wouldn’t confirm the date. That won’t be as big as the Avalanche’s parade in downtown Denver, but should be insane as well. We’ll certainly be following along.
