The Colorado Avalanche are going to have a long time off in between hockey games.
After sweeping the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals on June 6, the Avs have been waiting not only for an opponent, but a start date for the Stanley Cup Final. The NHL revealed two possible schedules on Friday afternoon, but with Tampa Bay winning the Eastern Conference on Saturday night, we now know when and where the Avalanche will pursue their first Stanley Cup since 2001. Here’s the official slate:
Game 1: Wednesday, June 15, 6:00 p.m. Tampa Bay at Colorado (ABC)
Game 2: Saturday, June 18, 6:00 p.m. Tampa Bay at Colorado (ABC)
Game 3: Monday, June 20, 6:00 p.m. Colorado at Tampa Bay (ABC)
Game 4: Wednesday, June 22, 6:00 p.m. Colorado at Tampa Bay (ABC)
Game 5: Friday, June 24, 6:00 p.m. Tampa Bay at Colorado (ABC)
Game 6: Sunday, June 26, 6:00 p.m. Colorado at Tampa Bay (ABC)
Game 7: Tuesday, June 28, 6:00 p.m. Tampa Bay at Colorado (ABC)
Colorado swept the Predators in Round 1, took care of the Blues in six games in Round 2 and then broomed the Oilers in the Western Conference Finals. They had eight days off between the Nashville and St. Louis series, and will now have nine days off during this break.
The last time the Avalanche played for the best trophy in sports, they beat the New Jersey Devils in seven games 21 years ago. They also swept the Florida Panthers in 1996.
The road to a third Stanley Cup will finally begin on Wednesday night at Ball Arena!
