When it rains it pours.
Stuck in maybe their worst slump of the season, the Colorado Avalanche got more bad news on Saturday.
Capitain Gabriel Landeskog needs knee surgery and will be out indefinitely, per head coach Jared Bednar.

Bednar was asked the timetable on Landeskog’s potential return, but didn’t offer much. The coach did say the team is “hoping” to have Landeskog back in time for the playoffs, but won’t know until after the surgery. The regular season ends on April 29, or in about seven weeks.
Bednar also announced defenseman Samuel Girard will be out at least four weeks. If either player goes on long term injured reserve, that could free up salary cap space for the Avs to make a big trade before the NHL’s deadline on March 21.
The Avs currently lead the Western Conference with 87 points, but are just 1-3-1 in their last five games. Colorado hosts Calgary on Sunday night at Ball Arena.
