Hackett will only be as successful as the QB the Broncos finally find

Feb 1, 2022, 7:09 AM

The Broncos have finally found their new head coach. Nathaniel Hackett is young, offensive-minded and comes from a winning organization. He fits the bill of who the majority in Broncos Country wanted.

He had a great first press conference, and it’s understandable if the fans are excited for their new head coach. Unfortunately, this team isn’t a coach away from being a winning football team.

Nathaniel Hackett has earned his right to be a head coach. The man helped Blake Bortles get to an AFC title game, and obviously helped Aaron Rodgers play some of the best football of his already Hall of Fame career. Hackett has done everything right get to where he is right now, but none of it will matter if he can’t fix the Broncos QB situation.

Teddy Bridgewater cannot be the starter in 2022, and the Drew Lock experiment was an abject disaster. The Rodgers window isn’t closed, but that is not a real plan for 2022. And even if they do land Rodgers, Hackett needs to have a long-term plan if he wants to be the Broncos head coach for an extended period of time.

Do I know the answer? Of course not, but I do know the Broncos QB of the future is not on the roster. Hackett can draw up the best plays in the history of the league, if he doesn’t have the QB to execute them, it simply does not matter. Don’t delude yourself into thinking any head coach could come in here and turn this team around without competent QB play, especially a first-time head coach.

I’m going to give Nathaniel Hackett a chance to actually disappoint me. Broncos Country has no reason not to be excited for their new head coach. He fits the mold of the modern successful NFL head coach. But without the proper QB, his vision will not come to fruition.
