A timetable emerges for Jerry Jeudy’s return to the lineup

Sep 13, 2021, 1:31 PM

When it happened on Sunday, it looked like Jerry Jeudy was going to be lost for the season. After the wideout was carted off the field at MetLife Stadium, with his ankle twisted and mangled, it didn’t seem likely that he’d be back in 2021.

Last night, however, good news emerged. X-rays were negative, as Jeudy hadn’t broken any bones.

He had, however, suffered a high-ankle sprain. That can be a troubling injury, one that will certainly keep the wide receiver out of the Broncos lineup for a while.

How long? On Monday, that picture became a little clearer.

“He’s gonna miss some time,” Vic Fangio said to the media. “It’s hard to put a timetable on it right now.”

About 30 minutes later, Adam Schefter did. According to ESPN’s NFL insider, Denver’s second-year wide receiver will be out at least a month.

Based on that timetable, Jeudy could return as early as Denver’s game against the Steelers on Oct. 10. It seems like their trip to Cleveland on Oct. 21 or home game against Washington on Oct. 31 is more likely, however.

How will the Broncos fill the void? That remains to be seen. They could place Jeudy on the injured reserve list, freeing up a roster spot. That place could be filled by one of the four wideouts currently on Denver’s practice squad – Tyrie Cleveland, Kendall Hinton, De’Mornay Pierson-El and Seth Williams.

“I don’t know, I haven’t talked about that with George (Paton),” Fangio said when asked about that possibility.

A possible return before Halloween? No one would’ve thought that was in the cards for Jerry Jeudy when he was injured on Sunday.
