Bradley Chubb predicted to be MVP for Broncos in 2021

Jun 22, 2021, 12:56 PM | Updated: 12:57 pm

Which players will make the biggest impact during the upcoming season? The Athletic’s writers predicted that outside linebacker Bradley Chubb will play at an MVP-caliber level in 2021.

“The No. 5 pick in the 2018 draft earned his first Pro Bowl honor last season, and that came on the heels of the ACL injury he suffered four games into the 2019 campaign,” The Athletic’s Nick Kosmider wrote. “Another year removed from the injury — and with Von Miller returning to command opposite-side attention after missing all of 2020 with an ankle injury — Chubb should be primed for his best season.”

The Broncos have only seen the duo of Chubb and Von Miller on the field together for four games since 2018. Chubb received his first Pro Bowl nod last season after coming off a gruesome ACL injury.

Denver exercised his the fifth-year option in April, with the $12.716 million contract guaranteed through 2022.

But can Chubb return better than ever in 2021?

It’s notable that the absence of Miller led to a consistent number of double teams last season leading to inconsistencies in Chubb’s game.

Chubb appeared in 14 games and totaled 42 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Recently, 9News Broncos insider Mike Klis reported that Chubb had a minor ankle procedure to remove a bone spur during the offseason. He is expected to be ready for the start of training camp in July, but the injuries are mounting for the Pro Bowler.

“The Broncos would love for the MVP of their team to be the quarterback, but they should settle for positive steps from Drew Lock, assuming he can wrest the job from veteran Teddy Bridgewater,” Kosmider wrote.
