Weil has been with the organization for 16 years and in his general manager current role since 2014.
The Denver Post’s Nick Groke writes that Weil is known as “an astute evaluator”. According to reports he played an “instrumental” role in the teams’ acquisition of German Marquez in a trade with the Rays back in January 2016.
Weil's name carries around the league as an astute evaluator. He was instrumental in the Rockies' trade for Germán Márquez, for instance. And he was among the obvious possibilities to take over for Jeff Bridich before Bill Schmidt was named interim GM.

After Jeff Bridich’s resignation in April Weil was considered a candidate for the job, but the club opted to give the position to Bill Schmidt, longtime VP of scouting.
The circumstances of Weil’s departure aren’t known.
