Lock vs. Bridgewater recalls memories of Siemian vs. Lynch

Jun 8, 2021, 12:00 AM | Updated: 11:59 am

Denver Broncos OTAS are off and running, and here we go again with another quarterback competition — something Broncos Country is all too used to.

Drew Lock gets to test his skills against the veteran Teddy Bridgewater. Who will be the Broncos quarterback for the 2021 season?

Either way, this is provoking some serious Trevor vs. Paxton flashbacks.

Remember when players or coaches would talk about the differences between Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch? It went a little like, “Trevor is smart, accurate and can spin it. Paxton is tall and athletic.”

Now we’re seeing the same type of rhetoric with Lock and Bridgewater. Wide receiver K.J. Hamler put it best the other day at Broncos OTAs: “Teddy is more of a timing thrower and things of that nature. Drew is a gunslinger.”

QB competitions never work out the way teams plan, and this one is no different.

Now, Lock is better than Lynch and Bridgewater is better than Siemian, but the situations are incredibly similar, and we shouldn’t be foolish enough to think the results will be any different.

Lock has been designated as a “gunslinger.” Unfortunately, that’s not a great fit for the modern NFL. You can throw a ball further than anyone, but if it’s not accurate, what does it matter?

Hamler essentially told us Bridgewater is the better QB, just how it was with Trevor and Paxton.
