Bridgewater looks forward to pushing himself, Lock

Teddy Bridgewater says he’s “always been a team-first guy,” the type of guy who knows football is a team sport and thrives on seeing his teammates at their best.

On Tuesday, the newest Broncos quarterback told “Nick & Cecil” that Denver’s getting a guy who’s ready to compete but also knows he has a unique opportunity to impart his wisdom on his younger peers, like Drew Lock.

“You’re getting a guy who’s the ultimate team player, who understands that sometimes you’ve got to sacrifice individual success for the success of the team,” Bridgewater said.

So when it comes to what he looks forward to in the upcoming competition with Lock for the Broncos starting role, Bridgewater said he was just “excited to be in the room with those guys.”

“Drew is a guy who I think he has unbelievable talent, and he’ll be able to do some great things in this league. And I’m the type that I’m able to be in the room with him, compete, push him, push the room and push the team,” Bridgewater said.

Amid rumors of the team seeking a potential trade with the Green Bay Packers for Aaron Rodgers, Broncos general manager George Paton said after the draft that he likes his quarterback room as it’s constructed.

“With Teddy and Drew, they’ll have a competition, and that’s what we’ve wanted all along. We’ll let them compete,” Paton said. “I like the room. Does it mean we won’t continue to look? No, but I say that about every position. I look forward to getting Teddy here, and he and Drew having a great competition.”

Bridgewater also touted the importance of competition on Tuesday, saying he looks forward to pushing himself and Lock.

“I have the opportunity to push Drew while pushing myself to be the best version of Teddy that I can be,” Bridgewater said. “And in the end, it’s just about competition. Competition makes the team go, it makes you go as a player and as a person in life.”
