Ex-Broncos QB Tim Tebow worked out for Jags at TE

Apr 29, 2021, 1:38 PM

Just months after retiring from professional baseball, former Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow is lacing up his cleats to attempt an NFL comeback.

Per ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the former first-round pick recently asked for a tryout with the Jacksonville Jaguars … as a tight end.

And according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, there has been “at least some discussion of him signing.”

Should Tebow land a deal with the Jaguars, he would not only be reunited with his former college coach Urban Meyer but also his hometown of Jacksonville.

Tebow played for Meyer, Jacksonville’s current head coach, with the Gators from 2006 to 2009.

During his brief NFL tenure, there had been discussions about utilizing Tebow as a tight end, not only in Denver but elsewhere.

Per the New York Post, a few teams reached out to the New York Jets about Tebow when they were open to trading him in April 2013, but only if he was willing to move to tight end.

Tebow never played another regular season down in the NFL despite briefly catching on with the New England Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles. Instead, the lefty turned his attention to professional baseball, signing a minor league deal with the New York Mets in September 2016.

In 35 NFL games, Tebow made 16 starts, compiling a record of 8-6. He completed 173 of his 361 career passing attempts, a 47.9 percent clip, while throwing for 2,422 yards, 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Tebow also rushed for 989 career yards and 12 touchdowns.

On the baseball side of Tebow’s career, he played in 287 minor league games, tallying 18 career home runs, 107 RBIs and a .223 batting average.
