All the drama of will or won’t the Denver Broncos draft a quarterback at No. 9 gets solved without any difficulty in the latest mock from CBS Sports.
In the two-round mock draft put out by CBS Sports NFL reporter Ryan Wilson on Monday, the Broncos are spared the quarterback question as Washington mock trades up with the Carolina Panthers at No. 8 to take Trey Lance out of North Dakota State.
The four remaining top-level quarterbacks in this year’s draft — Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Mac Jones and Trey Fields — go 1-2-3-4 in the mock to the Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons.
With all the first-round arms off the board before the ninth pick, Denver makes the first defensive selection of the mock, drafting Patrick Surtain II out of Alabama.
“Surtain is one of the most polished players in this class, and while the Broncos signed Kyle Fuller and Ronald Darby, Fuller signed a one-year deal, and Bryce Callahan’s contract will also expire after the ’21 season,” Wilson writes.
The Broncos select a Crimson Tide defensive product in the second round of the mock draft as well, picking defensive lineman Christian Barmore.
