Could the Broncos trade up for quarterback Justin Fields?

The NFL Draft is 57 days away and a recent mock has the Denver Broncos moving up to grab a quarterback.
CBS Sports writer Chris Trapasso’s recent mock has the Broncos trading up with the Miami Dolphins to take Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields with the third overall pick.
“The Broncos desperately want to fix the quarterback spot, and who would blame them? So they make a bold move to get Fields in Denver,” Trapasso wrote.
In the trade the Dolphins receive Denver’s ninth overall pick as well as a 2021 third-round pick and 2022 first-round pick.
Pro Football Focus currently has Justin Fields as the third-highest graded quarterback and third-best player in this year’s draft class behind Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and BYU quarterback Zach Wilson.
In his final season at Ohio State, Fields completed 158 of his 226 passes for 2,098 yards with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions.
In NFL.com’s ‘QB Index’, four writers ranked the 59 quarterbacks who started a game in 2020 with Drew Lock checking in at No. 33. The list is meant to reflect where each quarterback stood in the 2020 campaign alone.
“It’s not exactly curtains yet for Lock, who still could have a shot to grow into a decent player, whether in Denver or, down the road, elsewhere,” Tom Blair wrote. “But it’s also hard to imagine the Broncos can’t find someone capable of bringing a higher floor and ceiling to the position in 2021.”
For now Lock remains the starting quarterback heading into the 2021 season, but with free agency just two weeks away all eyes are on new general manager George Paton.
