Big Al: Rosen secured No. 2 in NFL Draft by skipping Senior Bowl

Jan 26, 2018, 12:27 PM

The best way Josh Rosen could gain an edge in this year’s NFL Draft on guys like Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen was, perhaps, to not compete at all.

“The Drive” co-host Alfred Williams said on Thursday that Rosen all but wrapped up at least the second pick in this year’s draft by letting Allen participate in the Senior Bowl this week in Mobile, Alabama.

“The kid, Rosen, out there in L.A., he just made himself a lot of money. He just secured himself in the worst case scenario the No. 2 position in the NFL Draft,” Big Al said. “There’s no way (it’s going to be Josh Allen).”

Allen, who started as a sophomore and junior at Wyoming the past two seasons, received some praise from Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph, who’s coaching the quarterback’s North squad this week at the Senior Bowl.

Said Joseph on Wednesday: “Josh Allen has a wonderful throwing arm. He made some big-time throws today. He’s in command of the huddle. That was good to see.”

However, inconsistencies in his passing has led a number of people to say his performance in Mobile has hurt his draft stock.

“Josh Allen is hurting his stock, bottom line,” said Fan Football Insider Cecil Lammey, who pointed to the quarterback missing a net in practice from just 10-yards away as an example of his accuracy issues.

But Allen’s inconsistencies are nothing new to the quarterback, Denver Post Broncos reporter Nicki Jhabvala told “Pritchard and Cecil” on Thursday, and he knows he needs to work on it.

“He’s even acknowledged that the completion percentage is not where he wants it to be, where it needs to be,” Jhabvala said. “So, he’s acknowledged that much.

In 25 starts his final two season at Wyoming, Allen completed 361 passes on 643 attempts for a completion percentage of 56.1.
