Lynch leaves game with ankle injury, Siemian at QB for Broncos

Nov 26, 2017, 5:08 PM

Paxton Lynch is out for the Denver Broncos after suffering an apparent ankle injury late in the third quarter of Sunday’s matchup with the Oakland Raiders.

Lynch, who was named the team’s starting quarterback this week, was visibly upset on the sideline after trying to work back into the game.

With the second-year gunslinger out, Trevor Siemian entered the game for the first time since being benched in favor of Brock Osweiler after a Week 8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

At that point he left the game, Lynch had been 9-of-14 passing the ball for 41 yards and an interception.

It was just the third career start the 2016 first-round pick, with the previous two games coming during his rookie season in relief of an injured Siemian.

After going three-and-out on his first drive against the Raiders, Siemian led the Broncos on a 10-play, 93-yard scoring drive to get Denver on the board early in the fourth quarter.

Selected 250th overall in the 2015 NFL Draft (Round 7), Siemian beat out Lynch in a preseason quarterback battle, mirroring the previous offseason in which he outdueled Mark Sanchez for the starting job.
