Miller, several Broncos sidelined for preseason opener vs. Bears

The Denver Broncos will be without arguably its best player for its preseason opener against the Bears, as reports indicate that Von Miller will be sidelined in Chicago.

Miller will join safety T.J. Ward, linebacker Todd Davis, center Matt Paradis, and running back Jamaal Charles on the bench at Soldier Field, per Denver Post Broncos reporter Nicki Jhabvala.

Head coach Vance Joseph had indicated on Tuesday that the first team defense, including Miller and Ward, would play a maximum of three series against the Bears and as little as just one.

Davis, Charles, and Paradis were all ruled out on Tuesday by Joseph.

Despite saying he “felt great” in his recovery from a knee injury last season, Charles not only won’t play Thursday in Chicago but has been limited in practice.

“We want to stay with the plan with Jamaal, obviously. Just give him more and more reps as we go along,” Joseph said on Tuesday.

However, “Schlereth & Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said this week that if Charles can’t get a chance to hit the field, his days in Denver may be numbered.

“Right now, if the cuts happened today and they had to pick their football team, he’s not making this team,” Schlereth said.

Last week, “Stokley & Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said that the Broncos need to let Charles “loose” at some point.

“You’ve got to let him loose and see if he has anything left or not,” Stokley said.
