Schlereth: Cutler ‘a better option’ than any QB in Broncos camp

After just more than a week of training camp, Mark Schlereth said there’s “one clear loser” in the quarterback competition between Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch: The Denver Broncos.
The “Schlereth & Evans” co-host said on Friday that, “just based on the quarterback play,” the Broncos look closer to a 6-10 team than a 10-6 team.
“They have not found that they feel confident in that can lead them into the future,” Schlereth said.
And because of the inconsistencies under center and the talent on the defensive side of the ball, calls have been made to sign a veteran quarterback— like DMac and Brandon Stokley suggesting bringing Colin Kaepernick to Denver.
But, Schlereth suggested the Broncos should take a look at someone who’s available and has a little more familiarity to the organization: Jay Cutler.
“Jay Cutler’s a better option than anybody that we’ve got in camp right now,” Schlereth said Thursday. “He’s got an out in his contract. I know for a fact that he’s got an out in his contract to leave Fox if a team wants him.”
And Cutler’s reportedly willing to do just that, but not necessarily for the Broncos.
ESPN NFL reporter Jeff Darlington reports that Cutler is “interested” in putting a hold on his television deal with Fox Sports to play for Adam Gase and the Miami Dolphins, whose quarterback situation is uncertain after Ryan Tannehill suffered a knee injury Thursday.
Here’s where it gets interesting: I’m told Cutler is interested in delaying TV gig to play for Gase but it’d need to be starting job/money.

“I understand sourpuss, lack of leadership, blah blah blah. But you can’t tell me, you cannot tell me, that if he was in this offense right now that this offense wouldn’t look better,” Schlereth said.
“I know he understands it, and no question the dude’s got an incredible skill set. But, that would be a much better option than Colin Kaepernick.”
