Inside Super Bowl 51 with Football Insider Cecil Lammey — Day 2

Author’s note: This is the first Super Bowl I will be covering from start to finish, and I couldn’t be more excited about what’s in store during the week. In this daily journal, I will revisit some of the highlights of the day and take you behind the scenes of Super Bowl 51.

I woke up in Houston ready to go. My first appearance in the morning is always on “Schlereth and Evans,” so I headed across the walkway from the hotel to radio row.

When I arrived to do the show, Baltimore Ravens tight end Crockett Gillmore was there getting interviewed.

Next, I hopped on a bus to go to the Atlanta Falcons media availability. We made it through downtown Houston in great time, as we had a police escort leading the way.

When we arrived at Falcons headquarters, there was a group of fans and a marching band playing as we got off the bus.

Inside, wide receiver Taylor Gabriel got my attention with one detail.

After that, it was back on the bus and over to the New England Patriots team hotel. The coach talks first at these events, so everyone was waiting to hear from Bill Belichick again. When he entered the room, a hush came over the crowd as he began to speak.

DMac had a great question about how Belichick’s father helped him become a better scout.

Time was an issue, as we had to make it back for the Fox media availability. They’re broadcasting Super Bowl 51, so on-air talent like Joe Buck, Troy Aikman, Howie Long and others were talking to the media.

The Fox talent I wanted to talk to the most was former Denver Broncos great (and Hall of fame tight end) Shannon Sharpe.

It didn’t take long for the Broncos to come up, and of course some of the conversation was about quarterback Tony Romo and whether or not he should be picked up by the team.

Sharpe was swift but fair with his assessment.

Day 2 is done, and I can’t wait to see what the third day brings us on Wednesday.

Coming into Super Bowl week in Houston, former Denver Broncos running back Terrell Davis had eight times been a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Three times he’s been a finalist.
