Inside the Game: How Broncos QB Siemian can improve decisions

After a performance Sunday against the San Diego Chargers in which Trevor Siemian threw one pick six — and probably could have thrown a handful more interceptions — Denver Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak was critical of his second-year quarterback.
In his Monday press conference, Kubiak called the near miss picks a teachable moment for Siemian and that the young gunslinger needs to “keep improving.”
“Some of Trevor’s decision making (Sunday) was not as good as it’s been for us as a football team. Some of that is due to — he got knocked around quite a bit, too, so obviously he got away with some, didn’t get away with one. I think he understands that coming out of the football game. We talked about that already so he has to continue to improve,” Kubiak said.
Siemian echoed the comments after practice Wednesday, saying he told himself as he walked off the field follow the pick six that he “deserved that one” because of the way he threw the ba in the first half.
“I wasn’t seeing things right. I made a couple mistakes, a couple of plays that I would like to do over. Just a little too inconsistent from where I want to be,” Siemian said.
In this week’s Inside the Game with Mark Schlereth, the ESPN NFL analyst and co-host for 104.3 The Fan’s “Schlereth and Evens,” breaks down a specific rollout in which Siemian missed his No. 1 target — an open Virgil Green — in favor for attempting a deep pass to wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
Had Siemian followed his progressions, the throw to the tight end could have gone for big yardage. Instead, it fell incomplete down the field at the feet of the Thomas.
