Jerry Walters began playing golf at the age of 8. Although technology has improved significantly over the years, his game, remarkably, has remained stagnant. Walters has been a member of the Golf Writer’s Association of America and the Rocky Mountain Golf Writer’s Association. Up until 2010, Jerry had worked for a national putter company on the PGA and Nationwide Tours and currently teaches putting at the Trent Wearner Golf Academy. Aside from that, he writes for Divot Magazine and has been a course-rating panelist for Golf Digest magazine, and is Manager of Instructor Programs for Eyeline Golf.
Walters’ highest achievements have been when he was recognized as the Media Person of the Year for both the Colorado Golf Association (2001 & 2010) and the Colorado Section of the PGA (2003 & 2015). Also included in his list of accomplishments is being named the Ralph Moore Media Person of the Year for the Health One Colorado Open Championship Series. He has been in the golf media since 1993, hosting golf talk shows at other stations and co-hosting a television show on a local cable network. When asked what his long-term goals were, his reply was “to have a sandwich named after him and to get in as many FREE rounds of golf as possible.” Lofty.
Work limits the amount of golf Walters plays, but he stated, “Having worked with the best players on the planet, inside the ropes, was the greatest thrill of all for a golf junkie.”
When asked about a weekly radio broadcast, Walters noted that preparing for the show is not as difficult as you might imagine, especially when you have a partner with the same passion for the game of golf. “It’s like sitting down to discuss the past week of golf with a friend in the men’s grill at the club. The only difference is that there are microphones.”
